Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos (Spain)

Weather…

The Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos in Córdoba is a historic fortress complex built on the remains of Roman and Visigothic structures, as well as the former Caliphate palace. King Alfonso XI of Castile ordered the construction of the current Mudéjar-style fortress in 1328. The palace served as a primary residence for the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella I and Ferdinand II, for over eight years during the Reconquista of Granada. A significant historical milestone occurred here in 1486, when Christopher Columbus had his first meeting with the monarchs to present his plans for the voyage to the Indies. The site is surrounded by magnificent gardens covering 55,000 square meters, featuring fountains, ponds, and lush local flora. Inside the fortress walls, visitors can find impressive 2nd-century Roman mosaics in the Hall of Mosaics. The Alcázar reflects the layered history of Córdoba and is part of the citys UNESCO World Heritage designation.
