Alcaudete Castle (Spain)

Weather…

The Castle of Alcaudete in the province of Jaén is a powerful fortress perched on a steep hill overlooking the town of the same name. The origins of the site date back to Moorish times, but its current appearance was largely shaped by the Order of Calatrava, which took over the castle after the Christian reconquest in the 13th century. As a border fortress facing the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, it played a crucial role in the defensive strategy of the Crown of Castile. The castle is characterized by its massive keep, the Torre del Homenaje, and its well-preserved curtain walls punctuated by square towers. Extensive restorations have been carried out inside to make the medieval living quarters and storerooms accessible to visitors. Today, the Castle of Alcaudete is regarded as one of the best-preserved examples of military architecture by the Order of Calatrava in Spain.
