Baena Castle (Spain)

Weather…

The Castle of Baena, located in the highest part of the old town of Baena in the province of Córdoba, is a fortress with a long and varied history. Its origins lie in the Muslim era of the 9th century, when it served as an important defensive point during the internal conflicts of the Emirate of Córdoba. Following the Christian Reconquest in 1240, the castle was rebuilt and reinforced, later becoming the residence of the Counts of Baena. The structure is characterized by its massive towers, including the Tower of the Seven Ends and the Archers' Tower, which dominated the city walls. Over the centuries, the complex fell into decay and was partially overlaid by later constructions until the beginning of the 21st century, when it underwent extensive archaeological investigation and restoration. These works brought significant remains to light and reopened the site to the public. Today, the castle is a symbol of Baena's historical heritage and features an impressive view of the Andalusian landscape.
