Udo
Udo, or "Cow Island," is a memorable gem located off the eastern coast of Jeju. Visitors are drawn to its spectacular natural beauty, particularly Seobin Baeksa Beach, featuring rare white coral-like sand made of red algae fossils. The island is also famous for its haenyeo community, legendary female divers who harvest seafood from the volcanic depths without oxygen tanks. Exploring the island by bicycle or electric scooter gives panoramic views of black lava cliffs and emerald-green fields. The local culinary highlight is the Udo peanut, transformed into delicious ice cream and treats sold across the island. For hikers, a climb up Udobong, the island's highest peak, rewards with panoramic views stretching to the iconic Seongsan Ilchulbong on the main island. The atmosphere is significantly more tranquil than Jeju city, making it a favorite spot for slow travel and relaxation. To get there, take a 15-minute ferry from Seongsan Port. Spring and autumn are the convenient seasons to visit, offering pleasant temperatures and blooming landscapes. Don't miss the chance to dine on freshly caught seafood at a seaside shack while watching the waves crash against the basalt rocks.
