Ilgwang-eup is located in the Gijang County of Busan and gives a welcome escape from the metropolis's bustling city life. The heart of the town is Ilgwang Beach (일광해수욕장), an arc-shaped sandy beach with shallow waters particularly popular with families with children. The beach is known for its cleanliness and easy on the eye surroundings, first-rate for swimming in summer and long walks in winter. The region is famous for its fishing tradition; specifically, Gijang seaweed (gim) and anchovies are known throughout Korea. Numerous cafes and restaurants line the coast, serving freshly caught fish. Nearby, the fishing harbor invites visitors to observe local life. Access is extremely easy thanks to the connection to Busan's suburban rail network (Donghae Line), making the town a well-suited destination for day trips. The blend of traditional fishing village flair and modern infrastructure makes Ilgwang-eup an appealing coastal destination on the Sea of Japan (East Sea).
