Sacheon is located on the southern coast of Gyeongsangnam-do province and serves as the hub of South Korea's aerospace industry. The modern city was established in 1995 through the merger of Sacheon-gun and the port city of Samcheonpo. Historically, it is significant as the site of the 1592 Battle of Sacheon, where Admiral Yi Sun-sin deployed the iconic iron-clad 'turtle ship' (Geobukseon) for the first time in combat. Geographically, the city features the Sacheon Bay and the impressive Sacheon Bridge, which connects the mainland to nearby islands. Economically, the region is dominated by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), where advanced military aircraft and satellite components are developed, making it a strategic high-tech center. Beyond industry, Sacheon is known for the Samcheonpo fish market and the scenic Sacheon Sea Cable Car, one of the longest in the country. The city uniquely combines naval military heritage with forward-looking aviation technology and maritime tourism.
