Cheongsong
Cheongsong is a hidden ecological treasure in the heart of Gyeongsangbuk-do, recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark for its unique geological formations. The Juwangsan National Park is the region's crown jewel, famous for its towering stone peaks, deep ravines, and mystical waterfalls. Another iconic spot is the Jusanji Pond, a man-made reservoir over 300 years old, where ancient willow trees grow directly out of the water, creating a surreal landscape favored by photographers. As a designated International Slow City, Cheongsong preserves traditional Korean crafts, including Cheongsong White Porcelain (Baekja) and handmade Hanji paper. The atmosphere is quiet and rustic, offering a first-rate escape for those seeking peace and natural beauty. The region is also famous for the mineral water of Dalgi Yaksu, which is naturally carbonated and believed to aid digestion, often used to prepare local specialty chicken stews. Cheongsong is synonymous with the highest-quality apples in South Korea. The clean air and high altitude result in exceptionally sweet and crisp fruit, celebrated every autumn during the Cheongsong Apple Festival. The best time to visit is late October for the peak autumn foliage, which is considered among the best in the country. Cheongsong is most accessible by car or intercity bus from nearby Andong or Daegu.
