Gapyeong
Gapyeong is one of the most visited destinations near Seoul, famous for its photogenic and romantic attractions. Nami Island, popularized by the drama 'Winter Sonata,' provides beautiful tree-lined paths in every season. Another must-see is the Garden of Morning Calm, an impressive botanical garden that hosts a brilliant light festival during winter. For a touch of Europe, Petite France features a French-themed village experience with galleries and cafes. The region is also a hub for water sports on the Bukhan River and hosts the renowned Jarasum International Jazz Festival. Hikers can find rewarding trails on Kalbongsan and Yeoninsan mountains. Gastronomically, trying 'Dakgalbi' (spicy stir-fried chicken) is a must, as the area is famous for it. Access is very convenient via the ITX-Cheongchun train or the Seoul metropolitan subway system. The best time to visit is autumn for the jazz festival and fall colors, or winter for the lighting festival in the gardens. Gapyeong provides a well-suited mix of romance, nature, and entertainment for travelers of all generations.
