Sombor County Hall (Serbia)

Weather…

The Sombor County Hall, locally known as 'Županija', is one of the most impressive administrative buildings in Serbia and a masterpiece of Eclectic architecture. The original structure was built in 1808 to house the administration of the Bács-Bodrog County, but it attained its current monumental appearance following a major renovation and expansion between 1880 and 1882 by architect Gyula Pártos. The facade is characterized by its grand symmetry and ornate roof. The highlight of the interior is the Great Hall, which features the massive oil painting 'The Battle of Senta' by Ferenc Eisenhut, completed in 1896. Measuring nearly 28 square meters, it is the largest framed oil painting in Southeast Europe. Today, the building remains the seat of the Sombor municipal government and the West Bačka District, standing as a testament to the city's rich Austro-Hungarian administrative heritage.
