KopaÄki Rit
Kopački Rit Nature Park is located in eastern Croatia, at the confluence of the Drava and Danube rivers, making it one of Europe's most significant wetlands. Established in 1976, it comprises a vast inland delta whose appearance constantly shifts depending on river water levels. It is a critical breeding ground for over 260 bird species, including the rare white-tailed eagle and black stork. Annual flooding creates a dynamic habitat for numerous fish species that utilize the area as a spawning ground. Since 1993, Kopački Rit has been recognized as a Ramsar site of international importance. The vegetation is dominated by willow and poplar forests, as well as extensive reed beds. Visitors can explore the park via wooden boardwalks or guided boat tours to observe the rich fauna up close. The park plays a pivotal role in regional flood protection and stands as an outstanding example of an intact river-floodplain system in Central Europe.
