💡 Tips

  • The Main Lake (Glavno Jezero) gets busy; head over to Vračevgajsko Lake if you prefer a quieter atmosphere.
  • Mosquito repellent is an absolute must in the summer, especially for evening walks near the water.
  • Cash is king here-bring Serbian Dinars, as small lakeside kiosks and food stalls rarely take cards.
  • Rent a pedal boat at the main lake to explore hidden, peaceful coves from the water.

Bela Crkva, or 'White Church', is an easy on the eye town in the South Banat District of Vojvodina, Serbia, near the Romanian border. The town is most famous for its chain of seven beautiful artificial lakes, created as a result of gravel excavation. These lakes, with their clear waters and managed beaches, make Bela Crkva one of Serbia's most popular summer destinations, convenient for swimming, fishing, and water sports. The town itself has a rich cultural heritage with appealing Austro-Hungarian era architecture, including the Roman Catholic and Serbian Orthodox churches. An annual highlight is the Carnival of Flowers, a colorful event that attracts thousands of visitors. Nearby lies the unique nature reserve of Deliblato Sands, Europe's largest sandy area. The local gastronomy features delicious fish dishes made from local lake fish, as well as wines from the nearby vineyards. Getting to Bela Crkva is best done by car or bus from Belgrade (approx. 100 km) or Vršac. The nearest international airport is in Belgrade (BEG). By far the best time to visit is during the summer, from June to August, to fully enjoy the bustling life around the lakes.
