The market lasted for 20 days annually during the month of Dhu al-Qi'dah and acted as a venue for tribal diplomacy and social gatherings. After a hiatus of several centuries, Souq Okaz was revived in 2007 by the Saudi government to celebrate and preserve the nation's cultural heritage. Today, it hosts a large annual festival that blends traditional crafts, literature, and historical reenactments. The site symbolizes the deep connection between modern Saudi identity and the ancient roots of the Arabic language.
