Ta'if is a city in western Saudi Arabia, in the Mecca province, located on the slopes of the Sarawat Mountains. Due to its cooler climate, it is known as the unofficial summer capital of the Saudi government; the royal family and government officials move here from Riyadh during the hot summer months. Ta'if is famous for its agriculture, especially for its rose cultivation. The fragrant rose oil, extracted from the Damask roses grown in the valleys around the city, is world-renowned. Other important products of the city include grapes, figs, and honey. The city also has historical significance; it was the first place Prophet Muhammad fled to from Mecca, but he was rejected. Today, Ta'if is a popular resort town that attracts visitors with its natural beauty, green landscapes, and temperate climate. The surrounding mountains, such as Al Hada, offer striking views and hiking opportunities.
