Râmetea (Romania)

Weather…

Râmetea is one of Romania's most easy on the eye villages, set at the foot of the massive Piatra Secuiului limestone cliff. It was the first Romanian locality to receive the Europa Nostra award for its impeccably preserved architectural heritage, featuring iconic white houses with green shutters. The village's unique location creates the 'double sunrise' phenomenon in summer, where the sun rises once, disappears behind the cliff, and then rises again shortly after. Râmetea has a rich history as an iron mining center, which is showcased in its local Ethnographic Museum. Hiking to the top of Piatra Secuiului (1129 m) is a popular activity, offering panoramic views over the entire valley. Visitors can enjoy traditional Transylvanian hospitality and local dishes like the hearty Râmetea goulash. The village is best accessed by car from Turda or Alba Iulia. The convenient time to visit is between May and October, well-suited for hiking, paragliding, or simply enjoying the tranquil rural atmosphere.
