Tarnów Cathedral (Poland)

Weather…

Tarnów Cathedral, officially the Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is a preeminent example of Gothic architecture enhanced by significant Renaissance additions. Construction began in the 14th century, and the building underwent numerous expansions and a 19th-century Neo-Gothic regothization that shaped its current monumental stature. The cathedral is internationally renowned for housing the monumental tombs of the Tarnowski and Ostrogski noble families, which are regarded as some of the tallest and most artistic Renaissance funerary monuments in Europe. Of particular note is the tomb of Hetman Jan Tarnowski, which stands over 13 meters high. The interior of the basilica is filled with artistic treasures, including late Gothic carvings and ornate Baroque altars. As the ecclesiastical heart of the Diocese of Tarnów, the cathedral serves as a cornerstone of the city's cultural life, blending religious solemnity with centuries of artistic achievement.
