Gorlice is located in the Low Beskids and is known as the cradle of the modern oil industry. Ignacy Łukasiewicz lit the first kerosene street lamp here. The "Magdalena" open-air museum testifies to this past. The city was also the site of a decisive World War I battle. The surrounding mountains offer excellent opportunities for hiking and skiing, and the region's wooden churches are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Gorlice is best reached by car or bus, with summer and winter being the best seasons to visit.
