💡 Tips
- The Regional Museum is housed in the historic Piast Castle. Check their website beforehand, as opening hours can be irregular on weekends.
- Take a walk around the old town square (Rynek) to admire the Weaver's House (Dom Tkacza), a rare surviving example of local baroque architecture.
- While the town center is very walkable, public transport connections to smaller nearby villages are sparse. Renting a car is best if you plan to explore Lower Silesia further.
- Visit the 14th-century Church of Saints Peter and Paul; you can often look inside the magnificent Gothic interior if you visit respectfully outside of mass times.
🍽 Food
Try these classic Polish dumplings filled with potato and cheese at one of the traditional milk bar-style diners near the market square.
A hearty sour rye soup often served with sausage and egg, great for warming up after exploring the Piast Castle.
Grab a slice of traditional Polish cheesecake from a local confectionery (Cukiernia) on the main walking street.

Chojnów, also known in German as Haynau, is an easy on the eye town in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The city is known for its rich history dating back to the 13th century and its past as a center for cloth and leather crafts. Its most prominent landmark is the Gothic Piast Castle, which now houses a regional museum. The market square, with its restored townhouses and the Weaver's Fountain, is the heart of the city. Gastronomically, Chojnów gives traditional Polish cuisine, including pierogi and żurek. The best way to get there is via Wrocław airport, about an hour's drive away, from where you can continue by train or bus. The best time to visit is in the summer when the weather is pleasant and the city reveals its full beauty. Late spring and early autumn are also very nice and less crowded.
