  • Book farm visits and cider tastings in advance during the summer season, as they are very popular and fill up quickly.
  • Buses to and from Ulvik run infrequently. Always double-check the local Skyss bus schedules before planning a day trip.
  • Take advantage of the right to roam (Allemannsretten) for hiking, but ensure you stay off cultivated farmland and orchards.

Ulvik is a scenic village at the head of the Ulvikfjord, a branch of the Hardangerfjord, and is considered the heart of Norwegian fruit production. The region is famous for its blossoming apple and cherry trees in spring, as well as the production of high-quality apple juice and cider, which is showcased through the annual 'Cider Route' for tourists. Historically, the village was an important hub for trade between the coastal areas and the inland regions across the Hardangervidda plateau. Ulvik is also closely associated with the life and work of the prominent Norwegian lyricist Olav H. Hauge, who lived and worked here; the modern Olav H. Hauge Center was established in his honor. Geographically, the municipality extends from the fertile shores of the fjord up to the barren high-mountain landscapes, resulting in immense biodiversity. The village is known for its hospitality and has a long tradition of hosting tourists, who visited the impressive fjord landscape as early as the 19th century.
