Skjervsfossen (Norway)

Weather…

Skjervsfossen is a striking twin waterfall near Voss, cascading down a total height of 150 meters in two consecutive stages. Part of the Storelvi river system, the waterfall is situated along the historic Skjervet road, which was once a vital connection between the Hardangerfjord and Voss. The surrounding geology consists primarily of hard gneiss, which has withstood the erosive forces of water for millennia. A unique feature of the site is the modern architecture of the viewpoints and service buildings, clad in local natural stone to blend seamlessly into the landscape. The high humidity near the falls favors the growth of rare mosses and ferns on the damp rock faces. Historically, the water's power was utilized locally for milling before the site was developed for tourism as part of the Norwegian National Tourist Routes.
