Mosjøen is located in the heart of the Helgeland region at the junction of the Vefsna and Skjerva rivers, making it the oldest trade center in the area. The town is renowned for the historic Sjøgata street, featuring over 100 well-preserved 19th-century wooden buildings that now house art studios, restaurants, and museums. Since the establishment of the Alcoa aluminum smelter in 1958, Mosjøen has evolved into a significant industrial hub that anchors the regional economy. It also hosts Fru Haugans Hotel, North Norway's oldest hotel, which has been in continuous operation since 1794. Outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to the Øyfjellet mountain for the 'Helgelandstrappa', one of the world's longest stone staircases, and a zip-line that glides across the Vefsna River. As a major stop on the Nordlandsbanen railway and the E6, it is a primary gateway for exploring the surrounding Arctic landscapes.
