Loen is located at the head of the Nordfjord and has developed in recent years into one of Norway's premier destinations for active travelers. The opening of the Loen Skylift in 2017, one of the steepest cable cars in the world, whisks guests from the fjord to the summit of Mount Hoven at 1011 meters in just five minutes. From the top, an unparalleled panoramic view of the Jostedalsbreen glacier and the surrounding fjords unfolds. For adrenaline junkies, Loen provides the Via Ferrata Loen, a climbing route that leads spectacularly over the fjord and includes a dizzying suspension bridge. For those who prefer tranquility, the nearby Lodalen valley is. Lake Lovatnet captivates with its brilliant turquoise color, caused by glacial meltwater. A boat trip on the lake is a highlight for any photographer. Loen is also home to the historic Hotel Alexandra, family-owned since 1884 and renowned for its luxury spa facilities. Gastronomically, guests can enjoy local specialties such as Nordfjord trout or game from the surrounding forests. Despite its modern attractions, the village has retained its original charm as a Norwegian farming community. The best time to visit is from June to September, when all outdoor activities are fully operational. Loen is easily accessible via the E39 road and local routes. A trip to the Kjenndalsbreen glacier at the end of the Lodalen valley is a well-suited addition to any stay in this dynamic region.
