💡 Tips
- Park your car at the designated lots outside the old town (Gamle Skudeneshavn); the historic streets are too narrow for driving.
- Arrive early in the morning to photograph the famous white wooden houses in the best light without the summer crowds.
- Visit during the Skudefestivalen in early July if you love boat culture, but book accommodation many months in advance.
- Respect the locals' privacy; the characterful white houses are actual homes, not open air museums.

Skudeneshavn is situated at the southern tip of the island of Karmøy and is regarded as one of Norway's best-preserved 19th-century small towns. The town flourished during the great herring boom between 1850 and 1870, evolving into a major hub for fishing and sailing. The historical district, known as Gamle Skudeneshavn, comprises approximately 225 white wooden buildings constructed in the Neoclassical Empire style. This architectural consistency provides a unique maritime atmosphere that attracts numerous visitors annually. Beyond tourism, the maritime industry remains vital, particularly through shipping companies like Solstad Offshore, which operates globally in the oil and gas sector. The Skudenes Museum, located in a former merchant's house from 1840, documents the town's history and the lifestyle of the golden age of sail. Each year, the town hosts the Skudefestival, one of Northern Europe's largest gatherings of classic boats.
