Hjelmeland is a scenic municipality in the Ryfylke region of Rogaland, known for its fertile valleys and deep fjords. The administrative centre, Hjelmelandsvågen, is situated on the Hjelmelandsfjord and is a major hub for fruit production, especially apples, cherries, and pears. The municipality is also famous for its traditional craftsmanship, most notably the production of the 'Jæristolen', a classic wooden chair with a woven seat. Economically, fish farming and the stone industry are important alongside agriculture. The landscape is marked by mountains such as Skomakarnibbå, which is a popular hiking destination offering spectacular views over the Jøsenfjord. A vital transport link is the car ferry from Hjelmeland to Nesvik, which is part of the Ryfylke National Tourist Route. Culturally, the historic Hjelmeland Church, built in 1858, is a central landmark in the village.
