Forsand is a historically significant area in Ryfylke, now part of Sandnes municipality, yet maintaining its own distinct identity. The region is situated at the entrance to the world-famous Lysefjord, one of Norway's most spectacular natural wonders. Among its most prominent landmarks is Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock), a massive cliff rising 604 metres vertically above the fjord. Historically, Forsand is known for Landa Park, an archaeological site featuring reconstructed houses from the Bronze and Iron Ages, documenting the region's long history of settlement. The economy was traditionally based on farming and shipping but is now heavily driven by tourism. Kjeragbolten, a boulder wedged in a mountain crevice at the head of the Lysefjord, is another major destination for hikers and base jumpers. The landscape is characterized by sheer cliffs, shimmering waters, and dense forests.
