Weather…

The Church of Saint George in Staro Nagoricane is a premier example of the Serbian-Byzantine architectural style, located in the Kumanovo region. It was built between 1313 and 1318 by King Stefan Milutin on the foundations of an older 11th-century Byzantine basilica established by Emperor Romanos IV Diogenes. The church features a grand five-dome structure with a façade meticulously decorated with alternating stone and brick patterns. The interior is renowned for its comprehensive and exceptionally preserved fresco cycles, painted by the master artists Michael and Eutychios. These painters are famous for their detailed narrative style, featuring hundreds of individual figures in complex theological compositions. The frescoes include a vivid depiction of the life of Saint George and portraits of the royal donors. A rare surviving element within the church is its original stone-carved iconostasis, a unique feature among medieval churches in the region. Today, the church is a protected cultural monument, reflecting the high artistic and political achievements of the 14th-century Balkans.
