Zebrnjak Monument (North Macedonia)

Weather…

The Zebrnjak Monument is a memorial complex located near Kumanovo, commemorating the decisive Serbian victory over the Ottoman Empire during the Battle of Kumanovo in 1912. Designed by the renowned architect Momir Korunović, the monument was inaugurated in 1937. Originally, it was a massive tower reaching a height of 48 meters, housing a chapel and an ossuary for the fallen soldiers within its interior. Its architecture blended elements of the national Serbian style with modern interwar influences. During World War II, in 1942, Bulgarian occupation forces dynamited the upper part of the tower, leaving only the ground floor and the first two levels standing at a total height of approximately 18 meters today. Despite its partial destruction, the site remains a significant historical landmark, symbolizing the Balkan region's transition from Ottoman rule to the emergence of modern nation-states.
