Masikryong Ski Resort

Masikryong Ski Resort, opened in 2013, is the flagship of North Korean winter tourism. It features ten varied slopes that wind down from the 1,360-meter-high Taehwa Peak. The resort was designed to international standards, offering modern lift systems and a ski school. The centerpiece is the luxury Masikryong Hotel, which provides high comfort with its wooden design, indoor pool, saunas, and several restaurants. In addition to skiing, visitors can enjoy ice skating or snowmobiling. Even in summer, the resort is an attractive destination for hiking and mountain air enthusiasts. The atmosphere is quiet and exclusive, tucked away in the pristine nature of Kangwon Province. The restaurants serve a blend of international cuisine and traditional Korean specialties like bulgogi. Access is via the highway from Pyongyang to Wonsan, taking about three hours. The resort is an example of large-scale infrastructure projects and attracts both domestic elites and international tourists. The best time for skiers is from January to March, when snow conditions are most stable. The view from the peak reaches all the way to the East Sea coast on clear days.
