The Sinchon Museum of American War Atrocities is located in Sinchon County, South Hwanghae Province. Established in 1958, the museum serves as a memorial and documentation center for events that allegedly took place in the region during the Korean War in late 1950. The exhibition focuses on the so-called Sinchon Massacre, during which North Korean authorities claim over 35,000 civilians were killed by U.S. forces and their allies. The museum displays a wide range of exhibits, including victims' personal belongings, photographs, instruments of torture, and dioramas depicting scenes of conflict. Notable parts of the facility include two air-raid shelters where hundreds of women and children are said to have been burned alive. The institution plays a central role in state ideology and patriotic education, aimed at fostering anti-American sentiment and national solidarity. The main building underwent a major renovation and expansion in 2015, incorporating modern museum techniques to enhance the emotional impact of its displays. Visitors, including many student groups and military personnel, attend guided tours often led by survivors or their descendants.
