Veluwezoom Moraine (Netherlands)

Weather…

The Veluwezoom Moraine is the heart of the Netherlands' oldest national park, Veluwezoom National Park near Arnhem. This push moraine reaches a height of about 90 meters at the Posbank, offering a dramatic topography by Dutch standards. Formed during the Saale glaciation approximately 150,000 years ago, the terrain was folded and uplifted by advancing Scandinavian ice sheets. The landscape is characterized by rolling heathlands that turn purple in August and deep valleys carved by glacial meltwater. Besides red deer and wild boar, the area is home to Corsican mouflons. The Posbank viewpoint, named after a stone bench monument from 1918, is a popular destination offering panoramic views reaching as far as the IJssel Valley. Its distinct geological structures make the region one of the most important areas for studying Ice Age geology in Central Europe.
