Sindhuligadhi (Nepal)

Weather…

Sindhuligadhi is a historic hilltop fort in the Sindhuli district that played a pivotal role in the military history of Nepal. It is most famous as the site of the 1767 battle where Gorkhali forces decisively defeated the British East India Company's troops. Led by Captain Kinloch, the British attempt to halt the Gorkha unification campaign was thwarted by the tactical superiority of the local warriors in the steep terrain. This victory was a defining moment that prevented the British colonization of Nepal and secured its sovereign future. The ruins of the fort, including its defensive walls and strategic watchtowers, remain visible on the high ridge today. The location also gives spectacular views overlooking the Terai plains and the distant Himalayan peaks. In recent years, Sindhuligadhi has been developed as a national heritage site, attracting visitors interested in Nepal's heroic past.
