Kalinchowk

Kalinchowk is a gem in the Dolakha district and has recently become one of Nepal's most popular destinations for those seeking high-altitude adventure and spiritual solace. The Kalinchowk Bhagwati shrine, perched at 3,842 meters, is a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus. With the addition of a modern cable car connecting the base village of Kuri to the summit, the site is now accessible to a wider range of visitors. On clear days, the peak has a remarkable 360-degree view of the Himalayas, including Gauri Shankar, Dorje Lakpa, and even Mount Everest in the far distance. In winter, Kalinchowk transforms into a snowy wonderland, a rarity so close to the capital. The base village, Kuri, is famous for its colorful stone houses and cozy lodges. Visitors can enjoy local mountain delicacies like hot soups and potato-based dishes while warming up by fireplaces. Besides its religious importance, Kalinchowk is a favorite for trekkers who enjoy the rhododendron forests in the lower reaches. The journey from Kathmandu takes about 5 to 6 hours by jeep via the Arniko Highway. The best time to visit is from October to December for the clearest views, or January to March to experience the snow.
