Armando Emílio Guebuza Bridge (Mozambique)

Weather…

The Armando Emílio Guebuza Bridge is a masterpiece of modern Mozambican engineering, spanning the mighty Zambezi River at Caia. Stretching 2,376 meters in length, it is one of the longest bridges in Africa and was officially inaugurated in August 2009. The bridge replaced the unreliable ferry service that frequently caused hours of delays in the transport of goods and passengers. It serves as a crucial link on the N1 highway, connecting the northern and southern regions of the country and playing a vital role in national economic integration and regional trade with neighboring landlocked countries. The project was made possible through international cooperation, including support from Italy and the European Union. Supported by 31 piers, the bridge is designed to withstand the Zambezi's extreme seasonal water level fluctuations and powerful currents. It stands as a symbol of progress and national unity following years of civil reconstruction.
