Mount Morrumbala

Water temperature…
Mount Morrumbala is a prominent mountain massif located in southern Zambezia Province, rising sharply as an inselberg above the surrounding coastal plains. Reaching a maximum elevation of approximately 1,617 meters, the mountain generates its own microclimate, receiving significantly more rainfall than the adjacent lowlands. This climatic variation supports dense montane forests and a high degree of biodiversity, including numerous plant species that are rare within the region. Historically, the rugged and forested terrain of Morrumbala has served as a strategic sanctuary and hideout during various periods of conflict in Mozambique's history. The mountain is dissected by numerous perennial streams that flow down its slopes, providing vital water resources for agriculture in the surrounding rural districts. Geologically, it is composed of ancient crystalline basement rocks that have withstood millions of years of atmospheric erosion. Due to its relative isolation, Mount Morrumbala remains a frontier for botanical and zoological research, harboring many species yet to be fully documented.
