The Dades Gorge is one of Morocco's most dramatic natural landmarks, famous for its unique rock formations known as 'monkey fingers'. Travelers visit for the dramatic hairpin turns and deep canyons, where red rocks create a sharp contrast with green oases along the river. The area provides excellent trekking routes through the gorge and surrounding Berber villages. Local architecture is characterized by sturdy kasbahs overlooking the valley. The gastronomy focuses on simple yet flavorful mountain dishes, such as lamb tajine prepared with local spices. The valley's tranquility and clear starry nights offer an unforgettable experience for visitors staying overnight. The gorge is best reached by car or 4x4 from Ouarzazate along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. The best time to visit is during spring (March to May) or autumn, when the weather is mild and the landscape is at its most spirited.
