Bin El Ouidane (Morocco)

Weather…

Bin el Ouidane is one of Morocco's largest and most impressive reservoirs, situated in the Azilal Province within the High Atlas Mountains. It was formed by the construction of the massive Bin el Ouidane Dam between 1948 and 1953, which stood as Africa's highest arch dam at the time of its completion. The lake is primarily fed by the Oued El Abid and covers a surface area of approximately 40 square kilometers. The project's primary purpose is hydroelectric power generation and the irrigation of over 70,000 hectares of farmland in the fertile Tadla Plain. Located at an elevation of about 800 meters, the lake is surrounded by impressive mountain scenery, where its deep blue waters contrast sharply with the reddish rock formations of the surrounding terrain. The lake's ecosystem supports a thriving population of freshwater fish, including pike and largemouth bass. Over the years, Bin el Ouidane has evolved into a key hub for sustainable tourism and water sports in the central Atlas region.
