Medun (Montenegro)

Weather…

Medun, known in ancient times as Meteon, is an imposing hilltop fortress located approximately 13 kilometers northeast of Podgorica. Established by the Illyrian Labeate tribe in the 4th or 3rd century BC, it served as a strategic bulwark against Roman expansion. Following the Roman conquest in 167 BC, the fortress remained a vital military outpost and later evolved into a residence for local noble families during the Middle Ages. In more recent history, Medun gained special significance as the home of Marko Miljanov, a legendary Montenegrin warrior, tribal leader, and writer. His former residence below the fortress walls now functions as a museum dedicated to his literary works and the history of the highland people. From the summit of the ruins, visitors are treated to a spectacular panoramic view of the Podgorica valley and the surrounding karst mountain ranges.
