Terelj

Gorkhi-Terelj is one of the most popular destinations in Mongolia, primarily due to its easy accessibility from the capital. The park is famous for its unique rock formations, of which 'Turtle Rock' (Melkhi Khad) is the most famous. Another highlight is the Aryapala Meditation Center, a Buddhist temple perched high on a rocky slope, offering peace and a wide view. The landscape is characterized by vast valleys where nomads graze their herds. Visitors can experience life in a traditional Mongolian ger firsthand here. Activities include hiking, climbing, and horse riding through the easy on the eye taiga landscape. Local gastronomy gives classics like khorkhog (Mongolian BBQ). Terelj is an attractive destination year-round: in summer wild flowers bloom, in autumn the forests shine golden, and in winter the park transforms into a glittering snowy landscape. Getting here is straightforward and takes only about an hour and a half by car from Ulaanbaatar.
