Great Gobi B Strictly Protected Area (Mongolia)

Weather…

The Great Gobi B Strictly Protected Area, also known as the Dzungarian Gobi, is situated in southwestern Mongolia along the Chinese border. It was established in 1975 along with Part A and covers approximately 900,000 hectares. This area is world-renowned for the successful reintroduction project of the Przewalski's horse (Takhi), which had become extinct in the wild. Thanks to international efforts, a steadily growing population of these ancestral horses lives here today. The landscape consists of vast semi-deserts, gravel plains, and the foothills of the Altai Mountains. In addition to Takhi, the reserve provides a habitat for goitered gazelles, wild asses (Khulan), and numerous species of birds of prey. The climate is extremely continental with low precipitation and strong winds. Conservation efforts focus on monitoring water sources and protection from poaching.
