The Transfiguration Cathedral in Bender is an outstanding example of early 19th-century Neoclassical architecture in Moldova. Construction began in 1815 and was completed in 1820, following the victory in the Russo-Turkish War and the subsequent annexation of Bessarabia to the Russian Empire. The building is characterized by its distinctive yellow facade and a massive central dome that reflects the architectural trends of that period. Inside, the cathedral houses valuable icons and murals that have survived despite the region's turbulent history. Notably, the church remained open during the Soviet era, which made it a vital spiritual sanctuary for the local community when many other religious sites were closed. Today, the cathedral is protected as a historical monument and serves as the main church of the Diocese of Tiraspol and Dubăsari. Its central location in Bender makes it a prominent visual landmark and a symbol of enduring religious tradition in the city.
