Cupcini is an industrial town in northern Moldova, located in the Edineț district, playing a central role in the regional food processing industry. Although first mentioned in historical records in 1431, the town underwent major development as an economic hub during the mid-20th century. Cupcini gained prominence primarily due to its large sugar refinery, which for decades was among the most significant in the country. Additionally, the town hosts various enterprises specializing in fruit and vegetable canning, dairy production, and large-scale baking. The town's architecture is functional, reflecting the Soviet industrial era with organized residential blocks and administrative centers. Situated on a major transport artery connecting the north of Moldova with the capital, Cupcini facilitates efficient regional trade. Despite economic transitions following the post-Soviet era, the town continues to be a vital source of employment for surrounding rural communities. It is also known for its educational facilities and active cultural life centered around the local Palace of Culture.
