The Ichel is a significant right-bank tributary of the Dniester River, flowing through the central part of the Republic of Moldova. It originates in the Orhei District and meanders for approximately 101 kilometers through a hilly landscape before emptying into the Dniester. The river course is characterized by deep valleys and photogenic limestone formations typical of the Moldovan Plateau. The Ichel plays a key role in draining the central region and serves as a vital water source for numerous surrounding communities and agricultural lands. Historically, the Ichel valley was an important area for human settlement, as evidenced by numerous archaeological sites discovered near its banks. Geologically, the river has exposed Sarmatian limestone layers rich in fossils, providing insights into the region's ancient history. Despite its relatively small size, the Ichel is a crucial component of the local ecosystem, providing habitats for a variety of fish and bird species.
