These formations are usually accessed as an interesting scenic detour when crossing the dry plains of the Tagant region. A robust off-road vehicle is typically required to navigate the dusty, unpaved terrain safely.

The timeframe from November to early March naturally provides the most manageable, pleasant temperatures for hiking. Summer ascents of these exposed rocky crests are brutal and strongly ill-advised.

What to bring

Solid walking shoes with excellent sole grip, a wide-brimmed sun hat, and very sufficient hydration are totally essential. Trekking poles can also be surprisingly helpful on the loose, rocky inclines.

Vehicles are typically left safely on the flatter, firmer parts of the dry plain directly surrounding the hills. This allows drivers to avoid the risk of puncturing tires on the sharper rocks closer to the crests.
