Kordin III Temples (Malta)

Weather…

The Kordin III Temples are located on a plateau overlooking the Grand Harbour in Paola and are the sole remnants of a larger group of three megalithic sites that once stood on the hill. Dating primarily from the Ggantija phase (c. 3600-3200 BC), Kordin III is particularly noted for its exceptionally well-preserved paved forecourt, which is the most complete of its kind in Malta. The structure follows the traditional trefoil floor plan and contains a unique monumental limestone trough with seven depressions, used either for grinding grain or for ritual libations. The site faced significant challenges during World War II when it was hit by air raids, but careful restoration work has preserved its structural features. Managed by Heritage Malta, Kordin III provides a less commercialized and more intimate look at the prehistoric temple-building culture. Its location near other major archaeological sites like the Hypogeum makes it a vital part of the cultural landscape of the Paola region.
