Iklin is a modern residential town in the central part of Malta, bordering Birkirkara to the north and Lija to the west. Its development as a distinct residential area began in the mid-20th century, and Iklin officially became an independent local council in 2005. The town's name is likely derived from the Maltese word for rosemary ('klin'), a plant that once grew in abundance across the region's untouched hillsides. Despite its modern history, Iklin holds archaeological significance; prehistoric remains and Punic-period tombs were discovered here in the 1960s. The oldest building in the locality is the small 17th-century chapel dedicated to Saint Michael, serving as a reminder of the area's former rural isolation. Today, Iklin is characterized by spacious villa districts and modern apartment complexes. The town is situated at a strategic transport node connecting the north with the heart of the island. Due to its elevated position, Iklin provides sweeping views from many points across the surrounding valleys and towards the coastline.
