Tsingy of Namoroka (Madagascar)

Weather…

The Tsingy of Namoroka in northwestern Madagascar is a fascinating labyrinth of sharp limestone formations, geologically closely related to the famous Tsingy de Bemaraha. The area was designated as a strict nature reserve as early as 1927 and declared a national park in 2002 to protect its unique karst landscapes. Over millions of years, erosion by water and wind has shaped the rocks into razor-sharp needles and deep canyons. Despite the seemingly inhospitable, dry conditions, Namoroka harbors a surprising variety of flora and fauna, including eight species of lemurs such as Von der Decken's sifaka. Numerous bat species and rare birds are also found in the park's caves and sheltered valleys. The vegetation primarily consists of dry deciduous forests and savannas adapted to the extremely seasonal climate. Due to its remote location and challenging terrain, Namoroka remains one of the least explored areas on the island, offering adventurers an unparalleled wilderness experience. During the rainy season, large parts of the park are nearly inaccessible.
