St. Michael's Tower Mersch (Luxembourg)

Weather…

Saint Michael's Tower in Mersch, known locally as the 'Merscher Turm', is a distinctive landmark in the heart of the town. This free-standing bell tower is the only remnant of the former parish church, which was replaced by a new building in the 18th century. The tower itself has medieval origins, dating back to the 16th century. However, it acquired its present form in the late 18th century, crowned by an elegant baroque onion dome, which is typical for the region. The tower served not only as a belfry but also as a watchtower from which the surrounding area could be surveyed. After a comprehensive restoration in 1938, it is now protected as a national monument. It rises proudly above the town's rooftops, a reminder of the long history of the place and the various architectural eras that have shaped Mersch. Its silhouette is an unmistakable symbol of the town's identity.
