Perekop (Luxembourg)

Weather…

Perekop is one of the most spectacular rock formations in Luxembourg's Little Switzerland, situated directly on the road between Berdorf and Mullerthal. It is a massive block of Luxembourg Sandstone that rises vertically about 40 meters high and is separated from the rest of the rock massif by deep fissures. A unique feature is the accessibility of the rock: visitors can climb to the top via a narrow iron ladder and stone steps built into a rock crevice. Once at the summit, a wide view over the dense forests of the Mullerthal is revealed. Geologically, Perekop is a result of the weathering of sandstone deposited in the sea approximately 200 million years ago. The site is a popular stop for hikers on the Mullerthal Trail as well as for climbers who value the steep walls as a challenge. In the immediate vicinity are other attractions such as the 'Huel Lee' (Hohllay), making Perekop a central point for nature tourists. Despite its exposed location right next to the road, the rock has preserved its wild and original character.
