Goldfralay
Goldfralay is a prominent sandstone rock formation in the heart of Luxembourg's Little Switzerland, renowned for its bizarre shapes and deep crevices. Geologically, it belongs to the Luxembourg Sandstone, deposited approximately 190 to 200 million years ago during the Liassic period in a shallow sea. The name is derived from a local legend about a golden lady who guards a hidden treasure within the rocks. Hikers reach the formation via the Mullerthal Trail, and the site is particularly striking due to its moss-covered walls and expansive views over the Black Ernz valley. Over millennia, erosion has carved narrow corridors and overhangs that are characteristic of the Berdorf region. Today, Goldfralay is a protected natural monument and a key feature of the Mëllerdall UNESCO Global Geopark, which preserves the region's unique geological heritage.
