Kemeri Raised Bog (Latvia)

Weather…

The Kemeri Raised Bog is one of the largest and oldest bogs in Latvia, located within the Kemeri National Park established in 1997. The peat layers have formed over a period of approximately 8,000 years and reach depths of several meters. The bog is characterized by numerous labyrinths of small lakes and water pools that create a surreal landscape. A wooden boardwalk, about 5 kilometers long, allows visitors to traverse the fragile ecosystem without damaging the vegetation. The area is a significant resting place for cranes and geese during the autumn bird migration. The mineral-rich sulfur springs in the surrounding area are geologically closely linked to the bog's drainage processes. Preserving the water level is crucial for the survival of rare bog plants like the sundew.
