Abavas Waterfall (Latvia)

Weather…

The Abava Waterfall (Abavas rumba) is one of the widest waterfalls in Latvia, located on the Abava River near the town of Sabile. Spanning approximately 35 meters in width, it is the second widest waterfall in the country, following the Ventas Rumba, although it stands only about one meter high. The waterfall was formed by a series of dolomite steps in the riverbed, over which the water flows steadily. The surrounding Abava River Valley is often referred to as 'Latvian Switzerland' due to its scenic, hilly landscape, which is rare in the relatively flat Baltics. This area has been a popular tourist destination for centuries and is part of the Abava Valley Nature Park, established in 1957. The site is a favorite for water tourists and those seeking outdoor relaxation. Nearby, the town of Sabile is famous for hosting one of the northernmost open-air vineyards in the world.
